20 years of Jazzmeeting: From the beginnings to today
Since 2003 the Wuppertal Jazzmeeting has been a pillar of the cultural landscape. A look back at venues, development and history.
Since 2003 the Wuppertal Jazzmeeting has been an annual attraction for jazz enthusiasts from the region and across NRW.
For ten years Café Ada on Wiesenstraße was the centre of the Bergisch jazz scene. Afterwards the former Landgasthaus Fuchspark and the industrial halls of Riedel Communications each provided the festival’s atmospheric setting for two years.
In 2020 the plan emerged to detach the festival from a single fixed venue and create a multi-day jazz journey through Wuppertal at various locations. Despite pandemic-related hurdles, this decentralised plan was successfully realised from 2022 with partners such as Bandfabrik, Loch, the Sparkasse Glass Hall and the Pina Bausch Centre.
