Portrait: Matthias Kurzhals – The driving force behind the Ada Sessions

Who actually coordinates the weekly jazz sessions at Café Ada? We introduce our saxophonist and organiser.

For many years Matthias Kurzhals has been a familiar face in Wuppertal’s jazz landscape. When the instruments are set up at Café Ada on Monday evenings, he ensures a smooth run behind the scenes. He books the opener bands, coordinates dates and often takes the stage himself with his saxophone.

‘It’s lovely to be part of openSky’s small creative team and keep jazz alive here!’, he says with a smile. Besides the sessions he also coordinates the association’s web content.
